I appreciated the Be Yourself Writing Challenge for several reasons. I appreciated being in the community that Megan has established. I think a good name for it would be “The Cocoon”. It’s a safe place to wrap around yourself; a place where reflection and growth can occur. In this environment the daily prompts were skillful in helping me dive deeper into my past experiences. Unarticulated thoughts that had been floating around my head began to crystalize. And there was a communal sense of support that extended to everyone. I also appreciated the structure of the challenge. There was an intuitive design to the whole thing. It was challenging but not impossible. There were breaks and grace periods to catch up when necessary. The instructions were helpful but not rigid. There was an excellent balance between restriction and freedom. Another thing I appreciated was being in an environment where I had to continuously write. It was excellent for further developing my own style and for building a deeper awareness of all those subtle aspects of writing that can only be understood by doing, rather than by studying. I still don’t have clarity on many of these subtleties but the daily effort helped to bring them into a bit more focus.
